The ChosunFund
Designed specifically for investment in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) or (North Korea),
ChosunFund is managed by AngloAsia Capital Management Ltd. Incorporated in Hong Kong
and wholly owned by Hong Kong incorporated Koryo Asia Limited ("KoryoAsia").
ChosunFund targets the full spectrum of economic opportunities presented by the DPRK, the last "tiger" in the
vibrant Northeast Asia region, as it continues to open its economy. Investments are structured to assure external
repatriation of profits to the fund. Initial focus is on three specific areas:
- The regeneration of the DPRK's extractive industries and targeted investment to get product to export markets.
The country has large deposits of gold, coal, zinc, magnesite, iron ore, copper, cobalt, nickel, uranium, fluorspar,
tungsten and other minerals. Mining industries performed reasonably well before the DPRK's economic contraction of
the 1990s.
- Enhancing existing energy sector capacity capable of being supplied from the country's own natural resources,
including coal, hydro electric and alternative means of power generation, such as biogas, wind power, etc; to power
mining or industrial investments made by the Fund or other foreign investors; and
- The country's banking and financial service sectors, defaulted London Club Debt presently excludes the DPRK from
international financial centres. Creative debt restructuring would be the logical way to reverse this. The domestic
financial services sector is rudimentary and offers huge potential as the DPRK implements economic reforms.
ChosunFund will typically target investment opportunities where there are existing operations which are constrained
by a lack of capital, technology or access to international markets. It will seek to develop transactions designed to
realize a near-term profit flow. The board of AngloAsia comprise of representatives from KoryoAsia and independent
directors with unmatched experience of commercial and financial dealings with the DPRK and in Asia generally.
